A message from your KEW Master Executive Council

February 26, 2024

Fellow pilots,

On behalf of the MEC, we would like to thank everyone who participated in the January research survey. We were encouraged to see that 77% of our membership participated, from across the country. This is the first in a series of updates sharing insights gained by the survey, to increase our transparency and feedback to you, our pilots. Results will be general to avoid giving away specific information to management about our pilot group’s attitudes prior to negotiations.

The questions were designed to identify priorities as a framework to begin negotiations. The survey also collected a snapshot of perceptions about Keewatin management’s treatment of our members and areas for improvement.

Among your top priorities were scheduling, increasing per diems, paid travel days, fatigue, and compensation for computer-based training.

The answer with the most overwhelming solidarity was a dissatisfaction with the method in which the company operates unassigned status, a desire to have unassigned changed to at home reserve, along with additional terms of scheduling.

Your Negotiating Committee appreciates your time assistance in completing the survey, and the invaluable feedback it provided.

The first round of negotiations is set for March 27-28, and April 4-5 in Winnipeg. We intend to communicate what we can following each session to keep you informed of our progress.

In Unity,

Your MEC
